Agadir, Oufella & the Souss-Massa Coast

Agadir is a modern Atlantic city rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, pairing a long seafront and active souk with the historic Oufella hill and distinct routes into the Souss-Massa landscape.

START WITH THE PLACE

See more than the headline sights.

Bon Voyage treats a destination as a connected world: history, neighborhoods, food, nearby escapes and the port or route that brought you here all belong to the same journey.

A MODERN CITY WHOSE HISTORY IS READ ON THE HILL ABOVE

Agadir makes more sense when the rebuilt city and surviving Oufella are planned as different layers.

The Moroccan National Tourist Office presents Agadir-Taghazout through its Atlantic seafront, modern tourism infrastructure, Souk El Had, Amazigh culture and wider hinterland. Its medina guide places the historic kasbah on the Oufella hill above the city, while National Geographic–Lindblad explains that Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake. Do not confuse historic Agadir Oufella with La Medina d'Agadir, a later reconstruction using traditional methods. Build one realistic city route around the marina, beach, center and selected souk time, or protect enough transport and access margin for Oufella. Taghazout, the reconstructed medina, Souss-Massa National Park, Taroudant and Marrakech are separate journeys with their own timing, current access and return decisions.
