Alicante's municipal tourism office places Santa Bárbara Castle on the summit of Mount Benacantil above the bay. Its three enclosures preserve different chapters: mostly fourteenth-century remains at La Torreta, major sixteenth-century spaces including the Hall of Philip II and parade ground in the middle enclosure, and the eighteenth-century Revellín del Bon Repós below. That vertical sequence makes the fortress a useful key to the city before travelers descend toward Santa Cruz, Postiguet and the waterfront.
