Celebrated as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it gave later monumental tombs the name “mausoleum.” Earthquakes brought the structure down over centuries, and stone from the site was later reused in Bodrum Castle. Seeing the surviving archaeological site, the castle and the harbor together reveals how the same materials and waterfront carried Bodrum through very different historical eras.
