UNESCO inscribed the Medina of Essaouira, formerly Mogador, in 2001 as an exceptional late-eighteenth-century fortified town shaped by European military architecture in a North African setting and by its role as an international trading seaport. The Moroccan National Tourist Office highlights the monumental gates, Skala of the Kasbah and port, narrow lanes, galleries and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdallah Museum. Build one realistic route from the working harbor into the medina and a selected rampart or museum stop, allowing for controlled port access, uneven surfaces, wind exposure and current opening information. The beach, Diabat, argan country, Safi and Marrakech are separate journeys with their own transport, timing and protected return.
