START WITH THE PLACE

See more than the headline sights.

Bon Voyage treats a destination as a connected world: history, neighborhoods, food, nearby escapes and the port or route that brought you here all belong to the same journey.

A PORT CITY ON THE ROUTE BETWEEN EUROPE AND ASIA

Kavala connects a fortified sea gate with the Via Egnatia and layered Philippi.

Kavala's official guide presents the harbor-facing Panagia peninsula, fortress, Kamares, Imaret, tobacco warehouses and coast as one city story. UNESCO describes Philippi as a walled city on the Via Egnatia: founded by Philip II, reshaped as a Roman colony and later important to early Christianity after Apostle Paul's visit. Keep those as two honest scales of day. Panagia adds slopes and stone surfaces; Philippi and farther routes need current opening information, suitable transport, accessibility checks and a protected return margin.
