Volos & Pelion

Volos pairs a walkable Gulf waterfront and distinctive tsipouradika culture with Mount Pelion's stone villages, forested slopes and coastlines where mountain and sea continually trade places.

PELION · THE MYTHIC MOUNTAIN ABOVE THE GULF

Pelion's village landscape carries one of Greece's most enduring centaur traditions.

The Greek National Tourism Organisation places Mount Pelion east of Volos between the Aegean Sea and the Pagasetic Gulf, with twenty-four villages set among plane, chestnut and fir trees. In Greek mythology the wise centaur Chiron lived on Pelion and taught figures including Asclepius and Achilles. The region's stone houses, shaded squares, old paths and contrasting mountain and coast make it a substantial destination rather than a single scenic stop.
