America's Cup Naples 2027: the confirmed dates, the bay, and how to plan the trip

The Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup Match is confirmed for Naples, Italy, with racing in the Bay of Naples: the Match begins Saturday 10 July 2027 and is expected to conclude on the weekend of 17–18 July 2027. This guide lays out what is officially confirmed — Match dates, the Race Village planned along the Caracciolo seafront, team bases and the AC Tech FanZone at Bagnoli, the Women's and Youth America's Cup programme — and what is still to be announced, including Louis Vuitton Cup dates, hospitality packages and the final Race Village map. It then does what no current result does: honest neighborhood-by-neighborhood guidance on where to stay (Chiaia and Mergellina first, Santa Lucia for the classic waterfront, Posillipo for panoramas, the historic center for value, Bagnoli for the team bases), a refundable-first booking strategy for the July 2027 compression, what the event means for Mediterranean cruise passengers whose itineraries call at Naples during the regatta, and the free Naples Preliminary Regatta on 24–27 September 2026 as a preview opportunity.

## What's confirmed for Naples 2027

Everything in this section comes from the event's official channels:

- **Host city:** Naples, Italy. Naples has hosted America's Cup World Series regattas before (2012 and 2013), but this is the first time the Match itself will be sailed in the Bay of Naples. - **The Match:** the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup Match begins **Saturday 10 July 2027**, with the expected conclusion on the weekend of **17–18 July 2027**. - **Race Village:** planned along the central seafront — Viale Francesco Caracciolo and the Lungomare — with a main stage for team and trophy presentations, big screens, food and merchandise areas, and close-to-shore viewing of racing in the bay. - **Team bases and technical hub:** Bagnoli, west of the center — AC75 team bases, technical facilities, a superyacht marina, the Women's and Youth America's Cup base, and an AC Tech FanZone. Base construction is already underway. - **Supporting programme:** the Louis Vuitton Cup (the challenger selection series that decides who faces the defender), plus the Women's America's Cup and Youth America's Cup, are all part of the spring/summer 2027 programme. - **A preview, right now:** the Naples Preliminary Regatta runs **24–27 September 2026**, with its own free Race Village around Rotonda Diaz and Mappatella Beach.

## What is still to be announced

This is the part that separates planning from guessing, so it deserves its own section:

Not yet published: the full 2027 race calendar; the Louis Vuitton Cup dates; the Women's and Youth event dates; the final Race Village map and entrances; road-closure and public-transport plans; hospitality packages and prices; any reserved-viewing or grandstand ticketing; and the spectator-boat rules (on-the-water spectators will need to register for designated zones once those are defined).

On tickets: the 2026 preview regatta's Race Village is free to enter, and organizers have described the Naples programme as open and accessible — so the working expectation is free public access in 2027. But the official 2027 access policy has not been published, so treat "free entry" as expectation, not promise. And be wary of anyone selling "official America's Cup Naples tickets" or "official event accommodation" today — no official hotel blocks or booking portal have been announced, so book only through channels linked from the official event site.

## Where to stay: the honest geography

Forget hotel sales copy — the areas are what matter, and they're durable.

**Chiaia and Mergellina — the best all-round base for most visitors.** Walking distance to the Caracciolo seafront and the likely viewing areas, good restaurants and evening atmosphere, and Mergellina's rail and metro connections. This is where I'd start looking.

**Santa Lucia and Via Partenope — the classic waterfront.** The grand hotels, Castel dell'Ovo, Borgo Marinari — one of the most beautiful seafront settings in the Mediterranean, and walkable to Piazza del Plebiscito and the Royal Palace. One honest caveat: a sea-facing room here is a bay-view room, not a racecourse-view room. The courses sit offshore, and nobody can yet promise which way the action will face from any particular balcony.

**Posillipo — panoramic and quieter.** Elevated views across the whole bay toward Vesuvius and Capri; excellent for taking in the wider race environment, less so for close-quarters action. It's hillier and more residential, so taxis and pre-booked transfers matter more, especially after evening events.

**The historic center — for the Naples part of the trip.** If the Cup is one thread of a broader visit, the Centro Storico puts you among the pizzerias, the Duomo, Spaccanapoli and the museums, often at better rates. You'll take a taxi or the metro to the waterfront on race days — in July heat, after a long day on your feet, that walk back from the Lungomare loses its charm quickly.

**Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta — for the team-base experience.** Closest to the bases, the superyacht marina and the AC Tech FanZone. Functional rather than charming; a sensible base if the technical side of the event is your main interest.

**Sorrento, Capri and the islands — tempting, but be careful.** Lovely, and ferries and rail connect them to Naples — but on race days, with an event of this scale on the waterfront, don't assume a comfortable morning crossing. If you stay out there, plan to be in Naples early, or accept watching from farther away.

## If your July 2027 cruise calls at Naples

No other event guide covers this — and Naples is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean, so it matters.

- **Check your sailing's Naples call date against the event window.** The Match runs 10–18 July 2027, and the Louis Vuitton Cup and supporting events may extend the racing window across late spring and early summer once dates are published. Mediterranean itineraries for summer 2027 are opening for booking now, so this is the moment to check. - **A port day during the regatta could be memorable** — the bay full of AC75s, the seafront in festival mode — but expect congestion along the waterfront corridor, where the cruise port, the ferry terminals and the planned Race Village footprint all sit. No operational changes have been announced yet, so treat effects on traffic, ferries and excursions as likely rather than certain, and re-check closer to your sail date. - **Excursion timing:** on race days, build extra margin into any return-to-ship plan. If your line runs a Capri or Amalfi excursion that day, ask how they're planning around the event. - **And the reverse case:** if you're coming for the Cup and have always wanted a Mediterranean cruise, this is a natural pre- or post-event sailing. Our [Naples cruise port guide](/travel/naples-cruise-port-guide) covers what the port gives you, and our Mediterranean port guides cover every major call.

## July 2027: the compression to plan around

Naples in July is already peak season — cruise calls at maximum, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast at their busiest, ferries to Capri selling out. Layer a global sporting event onto that and the honest advice is simple: **book early, and book refundable.**

- Reserve a refundable room **now** if you want a sea-facing room, a balcony, three or more rooms, or the final weekend of 17–18 July. - When you contact a hotel, ask precisely: Does the room face the bay or an internal courtyard? Is the view from the bedroom, the balcony, or only the rooftop? What are the cancellation and minimum-stay rules for 10–18 July 2027? - Flights into Naples International Airport (NAP) will tighten as the Match approaches; the airport's Alibus connects to the central station and the port corridor. - Don't pay a premium today for a "race view" — the final course layout isn't published. Buy what you can verify (walking distance to the Lungomare, air conditioning, refundability), not views nobody can promise yet.

## The September 2026 preview

The Naples Preliminary Regatta (24–27 September 2026) is a genuine opportunity: a free seafront Race Village around Rotonda Diaz and Mappatella Beach, racing in the bay, and a dress rehearsal of the 2027 waterfront setup. If you're deciding whether the Cup is worth building a trip around, this is the least expensive research trip you'll ever take. The 2026 footprint is not necessarily the final 2027 one — but the atmosphere will be real.

## Getting around on race days

- **From the airport:** the Alibus to the central station and port area; taxis operate fixed fares on several airport routes. - **Within the city:** the waterfront is walkable from Chiaia, Santa Lucia and the edge of the historic center; metro Line 2 serves Mergellina; rely on taxis or pre-booked transfers for Posillipo and Bagnoli. - **Ferries to Capri, Sorrento and the islands:** book well ahead for July — high-season crossings already sell out in a normal year. - **By yacht:** official berth requests for superyachts are already open through the event's appointed agent, with the preferred marina network spanning Bagnoli, Naples, Castellammare di Stabia, Pozzuoli, Capri, Salerno and Procida. - **Cars:** skip one unless you're staying well outside the city.

## What I'd actually do

If the sailing is the point: fly in on 8 or 9 July, book five to seven nights through the 17–18 July weekend, stay in Chiaia or Mergellina, spend race days between the official Race Village and Rotonda Diaz, and keep one non-race day for Pompeii or Capri — never scheduled on a likely race day. If the Cup is one ingredient of a bigger Italian summer, treat it as a two-night highlight inside a longer trip — but let the confirmed dates, not the scenery, decide your calendar.

One request, whatever you decide: when the Louis Vuitton Cup dates and the Race Village map are published, re-check everything. This guide deliberately separates what's confirmed from what's pending so you know exactly which parts to revisit — and we'll update it as each piece lands.

## While you're in Naples

The port and the city deserve more than a race week allows: our [Naples cruise port guide](/travel/naples-cruise-port-guide), [where to eat the best pizza in Naples](/travel/best-pizza-in-naples), [Pompeii from Naples](/travel/pompeii-from-naples) and [the Amalfi Coast from Naples](/travel/amalfi-coast-from-naples) cover the rest of the picture.
