Visit Elba traces Portoferraio from Roman Fabricia to the city Cosimo I de' Medici established as Cosmopoli in 1548. Forte Stella, Forte Falcone, Forte Inglese, the Martello Tower and layered walls still frame the horseshoe-shaped Darsena Medicea, while Porta a Mare leads into the historic center. Napoleon's Palazzina dei Mulini adds another island chapter, but a short port day cannot absorb all of Elba. Build the city on foot as one coherent route, then treat Villa San Martino, Monte Capanne, Marciana, Capoliveri, Rio's mining landscapes and individual beaches as separate plans whose current access, terrain and return margin have been checked.
