Gozo, the Cittadella & Ġgantija

Gozo pairs Victoria's fortified Cittadella with the UNESCO-listed Ġgantija temples, village landscapes and a rugged coast that must be divided into realistic island routes.

See more than the headline sights.

Bon Voyage treats a destination as a connected world: history, neighborhoods, food, nearby escapes and the port or route that brought you here all belong to the same journey.

AN ISLAND OF PREHISTORIC STONE, FORTIFIED HEIGHTS AND COAST

Gozo works best as one carefully chosen island story, not a checklist driven across the map.

UNESCO includes the two Ġgantija temples on Gozo within the Megalithic Temples of Malta World Heritage property, while Heritage Malta describes the archaeological park as two Late Neolithic structures on the Xagħra plateau. Heritage Malta's Gozo collection also places the Cittadella Visitor Centre, Old Prison and Gran Castello Historic House together in Victoria's fortified hilltop complex. Those are different clusters from Dwejra, Ta' Pinu, Ramla, Xlendi and the ferry landscape around Mġarr. Choose one or two compatible areas, then verify current opening information, timed entry if applicable, weather, surfaces, slopes, accessibility, road transport and the sailing-specific return. Comino and mainland Malta require separate marine or ferry plans and should never be assumed to fit a short Gozo call.
