UNESCO recognizes the historic center of Chora together with the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse. Its record describes a monastery founded in the late tenth century that has remained a place of pilgrimage and Greek Orthodox learning, dominating an old settlement rich in religious and secular buildings. The municipality adds the island's spatial story: Skala is the arrival port, Chora grew beneath the fortified monastery and the historic Aporthianos stone path links the two. That creates one coherent heritage route, while opening hours, worship, respectful dress, steep streets, path conditions, accessibility and return transport require current checks. Grikos, Kampos, beaches and neighboring islets belong to separate plans.
