For travelers, the practical issue is not whether Rachel's center crosses the shoreline. Rain, wind and dangerous surf can affect coastal routes and activities well away from the center. RAINFALL, FLOODING AND MUDSLIDE RISK
NHC forecasts 3 to 6 inches of rain, with isolated totals up to 8 inches, across coastal portions of Guerrero, Michoacán and Colima. The agency warns that this rainfall may produce flooding and mudslides, especially in steep terrain.
Guerrero's state government also says Rachel is affecting the state's weather pattern and has urged continued monitoring. That local notice is useful context for Acapulco and other Guerrero itineraries, but it does not prove that a particular airport, hotel, highway, tour, restaurant or attraction is closed.
Travelers should treat heavy-rain risk as a route-planning issue. A hotel can remain open while the road to it becomes slower or unsafe.
