THE SHORT ANSWER
LA Metro says the two center lanes of eastbound I-105—including the HOV lane and the #1 lane—are scheduled to close between Hawthorne Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday, September 25 until 10 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 2026. Metro also says the northbound I-405 connector to eastbound I-105 will be closed, and corresponding ramps may close as needed.
This is not a full eastbound I-105 shutdown. General eastbound lanes remain available through the work zone unless a separate current notice says otherwise. Travelers should check the live Metro work notice and Caltrans road information before departure because construction details can change.
METRO C LINE RIDERS HAVE A SEPARATE IMPACT
Metro's current notice also lists a C Line bus bridge from 9 p.m. Friday, September 25 until 2 a.m. Sunday, September 27. Aviation/Imperial and Hawthorne/Lennox stations are temporarily closed during that bus-bridge window, with shuttle buses operating between the LAX/Metro Transit Center and Crenshaw Station.
The freeway lane-closure window and the C Line bus-bridge window are not identical. Do not assume that a freeway reopening time is also the rail-service restoration time, or vice versa. Recheck Metro service alerts for the trip actually being taken.
WHAT THE FREEWAY NOTICE SAYS
Metro identifies the affected roadway as eastbound I-105 from Hawthorne Boulevard to Crenshaw Boulevard. The closure is limited to the center lanes—the HOV lane and #1 lane—during the published extended-work window.
Metro also lists the northbound I-405 connector to eastbound I-105 as closed and says corresponding ramps may be closed as needed. Because the phrase "as needed" does not identify every ramp in advance, Bon Voyage Compass will not publish a guessed ramp list. WHY THIS MATTERS FOR LAX AND SOUTH LOS ANGELES TRIPS
I-105 is an important east-west route serving the LAX area, Hawthorne, Inglewood and communities farther east. The work can affect airport transfers, hotel trips, event travel and local driving, especially where an itinerary depends on the I-405-to-I-105 connection.
Metro does not publish one guaranteed delay time for every origin and destination. Build contingency time around flights, timed tickets, hotel check-ins and other hard deadlines rather than converting a construction notice into a universal minutes-of-delay estimate.
THE PROJECT CONTINUES BEYOND THIS WEEKEND
Metro says the weekend closures support the I-105 ExpressLanes Project. The project converts the existing HOV lane and adds a second ExpressLane in each direction between I-405 and the I-605/Studebaker Road area. Metro's project page says weekend extended lane closures will occur intermittently from spring 2026 into early 2027.
That longer project timeline does not mean the September 25–27 closure pattern is continuously active. Each future construction window needs its own current official notice.
